2024年『MBA英语』（语法）从句类（3）-定语从句关系副词（Ⅲ）

关系副词，兼有副词与连接词两种作用，在不及物动词的连接中要求用关系副词。所引导的形容词子句用于修饰主要句子中的某一名词或代名词，被修饰的词称作先行词，关系副词要放在先行词之后。例如:关系副词when在定语从句中用作状语，表示时间，用以修饰表示时间的先行词。

(一) 关系副词 —— when

先行词是时间，从句中不缺成分，关系词用 when 使从句变成时间状语

先行词通常为 time, moment, day, second, year, month, minute 等

例：

I still remember the day when I first saw you.

我依然记得我第一次见你的那一天。

(二) 关系副词 —— where

先行词是地点，从句中不缺成分，关系词用 where 使从句变成地点状语

例

You had better make a mark at the spot where you have any questions.

你最好在有问题的地方做个标记。

I still remember the place where I met her.

我仍然记得我见到她的那个地方。

(二) 关系副词 —— why

先行词通常为 reason，从句中不缺成分，关系词用 why 使从句变成原因状语

例：

That is the reason why you are single.

那就是你为什么单身的原因。

有2种特殊情况，需要注意一下

(一) 关系词省略

若关系词在从句中做宾语，可省略

例：

If Gilbert and the Philharmonic are to succeed, they must first change the relationship between America’s new audience it hopes to attract.

如果吉尔伯特和爱乐乐团想要成功，他们首先得改变这个它想吸引的美国新听众之间的关系。

(二) 关系词代指整句

as 和 which 可指代整个主句，as 一般放在句首，which 在句中

例：

As we know, smoking is harmful to one’s health.

Smoking is harmful to one’s health, which we know.

As is very important to us, the sun heats the earth.

The sun heats the earth, which is very important to us.
